Saturday night at Bright was a game only a control freak could like.
The Big Red were locked into their various schemes which seemed to
not including scoring chances. Harvard again played its control game
and looked like they were waiting for Monday night.

Steve Martins (Chris Baird, Derek Maguire) opened the soring with a
power play goal. His power slap shot from the weak side slot drilled
its way home. The setup pass from the point was very dangerous and
could have resulted in a Cornell break away. In the second period,
Martins (Sean McCann, Baird) made it 2-0 on another power play goal
when he buried a rebound off the post. In the final period, Brian
Farrell (Martins, Maguire) was able to tip a wonderful pass high into
the net. Martins perception and remarkable pass with the goalie down
made the goal. Joe Craigen (Stuart Swenson) finished the scoring
with an empty net goal. Harvard had managed a break away as Cornell
tried to score with six attackers.

The Big Red came out in the first period with energy. The problem to
me appears to be, like Harvard, that energy is not channelled in an
attacking manner. Their checking schemes are nice, but they need to
create scoring chances. The line of Shaun Hannah, Brad Chartrand and
Geoff Lopatka were the most interesting. Goalie Andy Bandurski was
very solid in net. He looks like a tough puck stopper. All in all,
it was very good of Cornell to let Harvard play their control game,
but ...

The Crimson played a very boring game. Marco Ferreri filled in for
an injured (?) Ashlin Halfnight and played fairly well on D. Maguire
and Body both had very strong games. Maguire's intelligent passing
was one of the few joys of this match. Martins had an excellent
game finishing, though his lovely pass to Farrell was my favorite
play of the night. First-year player Joe Craigen played a wonderful
match. He was skating hard all night. He is improving rapidly and
is becoming a real asset for Harvard. Ben Coughlin and Perry Cohagan
had one nice shorthanded break in attempt. It proved they can skate,
pass and use each other in a brilliant manner. A player who has been
off the boil, but looks to be ready to have some big games is Cory
Gustafson. Look for him in the near future. Overall not my kind of
game.
