As for the Knick being INTERESTED - they were VERY much so. So much so
that they lost the '93 East Regionals! The Knick already believes that
the Capital District (Albany area) has a very good draw for college
hockey. After all, the '92 NC$$ finals at the Knick were basically sold
out to mostly *locals* (except for the seats they had to save for the
four schools playing).
The way I understand it, the location was put to a vote of the athletic
directors from the 12 schools. The choices were the Boston Garden or the
Knick. The vote came out 6-6! About a month ago, Lake Placid got into the
act and I guess that broke the tie.
As for Lake Placid being close to RPI - it's still about a 2.5 hour drive -
Boston is only 3! Also, don't forget the ECAC newcomer Union. It's in
Schenectady (15 miles from RPI). I bet you can guess what my "choice" was!
