WINTER CARNIVAL NOT KIND TO HUSKIES AS UMD BEATS TECH, 5-1
HOUGHTON, Mich. -- For the second straight Friday, Michigan Tech's
men's ice hockey team didn't have it. This Friday it was at home in
Winter Carnival action as the Huskies dropped a 5-1 Western
Collegiate Hockey Association decision to Minnesota Duluth.
"I'm really disappointed," said Tech Head Coach Mike Sertich. "Really
disappointed."
Minnesota Duluth scored early in the first period -- at 2:28, and
late, at 19:18 to open a 2-0 advantage after the opening period.
The visitors, who were coming off a home-ice sweep of highly-touted
Denver, scored goals at 3:43 and 4:11 of the middle stanza to take
command.
Tech's lone marker of the game came from junior Jon Pittis as he dove
to the ice and deflected a pass from Chris Conner past Isaac
Reichmuth.
MTU netminder Cam Ellsworth made 22 saves, while Reichmuth had 23 stops.
The two teams meet again Saturday (Feb. 15) at 5:05 p.m. in the
conclusion of the two-game league set.
