New Hampshire does not extend contract of women's ice hockey head coach
Karen Kay
DURHAM, N.H. - The contract of University of New Hampshire women's ice
hockey head coach Karen Kay has not been extended for the 2002-03
academic year, UNH Athletic Director Marty Scarano announced Tuesday
afternoon.
"After a thorough review of the program, I feel it is in the best
interest of the women's ice hockey program at UNH to find new
leadership," Scarano said.
A national search will convene immediately with the intent to find a
coach who will embody the high standards of the University of New
Hampshire and to bring the program back to national prominence.
A search committee to find the third head coach in the 25-year history
of varsity women's ice hockey at New Hampshire will be convened and a
national search commenced with the intent to find Kay's successor as
soon as possible.
Coach Kay compiled a 215-90-25 record in 10 seasons (1992-93 through
2001-02) at UNH.
