When the Gophers retire Eveleth native John Mayasich's No. 8 hockey
jersey Nov. 14 at Mariucci Arena, 1,500 beanie bag hockey Gophers toys
with No. 8 on the jersey will be given to ticket buyers.  ``The big
thrill is like so many who have had the honor of playing at the
university,'' Mayasich said Wednesday. ``My wife probably has an order
(beanie toys) in for the 12 grandkids.''
 
It'll be the first time a gopher hockey number has been retired.
