>                     Minnesota women's hockey coach Laura Halldorson
>                     and six of her team members for the upcoming
>                     season have been chosen to participate at the
>                     Olympic Festival, Aug. 22-31, at the Olympic
>                     Training Center in Lake Placid, N.Y.
>
>                     Halldorson, who was named the first women1s
>                     hockey coach of the year by the American Hockey
>                     Coaches Association this year, will serve as an
>                     assistant to Yale men's head coach Tim Taylor.
>
>                     Three Gopher forwards will participate, including
>                     returning sophomore Ambria Thomas and
>                     newcomers Jenny Schmidgall and Laura Slominski.
>
>                     Thomas scored 28 goals and 51 points for
>                     Minnesota in 1997-98, leading the nation with seven
>                     game-winning goals. She was a member of the 1996
>                     U.S. Junior National team and participated in the at
>                     last year's Olympic tryout camp.
>
>                     Schmidgall, who signed with the Gophers in
>                     November, 1996, spent last season with Team USA,
>                     scoring nine goals and 21 points in 30 games while
>                     earning a gold medal at the Olympic Games in
>                     Nagano, Japan. She is a two-time U.S. Junior
>                     National team member.

>                     Slominski, the 1998 Minnesota Ms. Hockey Award
>                     winner, who will also join the Gophers for her first
>                     season this fall, set school records at Burnsville last
>                     season with 44 goals and 72 points. She was also
>                     named the state1s female High School Athlete of the
>                     Year by the Mount Olivet All Sportsmen1s Club.

>                     The Gophers will have two members of their defense
>                     participate in sophomores Brittny Ralph and
>                     Courtney Kennedy.
>
>                     Ralph, who played on the 1996 U.S. Junior National
>                     team and attended last year's Olympic tryout camp,
>                     led the Gopher defense with 15 goals and 25 points
>                     last season. She was second nationally on defense
>                     in goals scored.
>
>                     One of three Minnesota newcomers to participate at
>                     the Olympic Festival, Kennedy was the top
>                     goal-scorer on defense in the nation last year,
>                     tallying 18 goals in 24 games at Colby College. She
>                     is also a two-time U.S. Junior National team member.
>
>                     The sixth Gopher to earn a spot on the team is
>                     sophomore goalie Erica Killewald. As Minnesota's
>                     number netminder last season, she posted an 18-5-3
>                     record along with a 2.21 goals against average, .903
>                     save percentage and five shutouts.
