This was definitely a game for the ages! First of all, Daubenspeck was
never out of the nets, the box you saw must have been in error. Some of
the fans left after an overtime or two, but there were probably 2000 of
us there until the end.

Of course, the goaltending was the main highlight of this one. What a
way for Daubenspeck to go out, with 75 saves on 76 shots. He has
carried this team for the past couple of years, and it was right that he
should end his career with such a spectacular performance. These
dueling goalies reminded me of game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals last
year. It was a shame either of these guys had to take a loss.

The overtimes included a pipe apiece, WI killing off a three minute
power play, a clean breakaway for WI and several near breakaways, all
stopped by the respective tenders. Finally, at 9:30 of the fourth
overtime, T.J. Tanberg put away a rebound and the place exploded on the
ice and off. I have to give WI loads of credit in this game. After
getting pasted on Fri., they came out and skated hard and well the
entire game.

The only disappointment to me (an avid CC fan) was the fact that Sauer
walked off the ice from one of the classic playoff battles in the
history of the WCHA without shaking the CC players' hands. It made me
wonder if it would be his last game behind the WI bench. If so, what a
sad way to go out, shuffling off the ice as two teams of warriors (and
one set of proud coaches) met in the middle.
