After last night's win over WMU, I asked two questions, which I shall answer
now. The first was which MSU team would show up, the one which played the
first two periods against WMU or the one which won the third period. The
answer: Neither. NO MSU team showed up in Detroit tonight!!! The guys who
showed up wearing Green and White may have been dressed like Spartans, but
they played hockey about as well as the LA Clippers play basketball.

The second was: Would John Hauessler's jinx continue? Must be something about
this year, because Michigan almost always lost whenever he met someone from
the list for the first time. Not tonight. I was able to prove to John and
the rest of the very courteous Wolverine Hockey-L members that I exist. Un-
fortunately, the Spartans didn't show them (or me) that they knew how to skate,
shoot, check, and, above all else, score.

With BG's tie against WMU tonight, the Spartans fall into a third place tie
with Miami and, pending the result from Chicago, possibly Lake Superior. That
may end up helping MSU out, since surprisingly the Spartans went 2-0-1 against
LSSU this year. And Lord knows we need all the help we can get right now.

Hopefully, on Monday I shall relate my trip to Detroit, including how one
restaurant in Greektown will never get my business again, even if it were
the last place open and I hadn't eaten for three days.

Michigan State University 13-7-3, 18-10-3
WVU '87, UTenn '92, MSU who the hell knows when?

Two notes: 1. Keith Instone mentioned the third meeting between Miami and
MSU. That game takes place on Saturday, March 4 in Oxford.
The Spartans are in Columbus the night before (which may be
about the only place we can hope for a win).

           2. My apologies to Steve Klein for not saying Hi to him before
the game. Steve may remember me as the one dressed all in
black (Giants baseball jacket, Ottawa Senators hockey jersey)
on the landing leading to the upper deck. (I didn't know
that my wearing black tonight would be a sign of impending
              doom for MSU.)

OK, make that three notes: 3. Michigan's win clinches the regular season
title for the Wolverines, thus making them
the first team to qualify for the NC$$ Tour-
nament. (It also means that it makes my job
a little easier, since I most likely won't have
to wait until the end of the day on March 5 to
figure out what all the conference tournament
pairings will be. The pre-announcement of the
Conference Tournament contest should be out
                               this week.)
