To all those fellow haters (or lovers) of Giles,

Whoee! Karen's post brought me back to those times of yore when UNH's
Snively Arena was even more rabid than in the latter days due to the lack
of glass in each end. Instead of the glass, strong chain-link fencing
stood above the boards. In those days, UNH adherents could make direct
comments to goalies, players, and referees ailke, in no uncertain terms.

Mr Treadgold comes to mind for all the reasons previously mentioned. He
could be as one-way as an official could be, and then turn around one
period later and do the opposite. My memory of him involves his penchant
for "conversing" with the fans. With heated games ongoing, and judgement
put to the extreme test, Giles in some games was fond of "commenting on
the comments" of the UNH faithful, going so far as to relate the time
remaining in the game or penalty to those who asked, as well as other
observations, all uttered while he was purportedly "watching" the play.
I always wondered how he got away with it!

Thanks for bringing up the memory!
