I hadn't seen any posts on this, so I thought I'd throw it out
for observation.
This morning's (Wed April 13) Denver Post reports that a couple of
candidates to replace Frank Serretore have been identified, in an
article under the heading: "Pioneers courting N. Mich Coach"
[lifted without permission]
If the Univ of Denver can agree on contractual details with
him, Northern Michigan Univ coach Rick Comley will be named
the new Pioneers hockey coach next month, a source told the
Denver Post.
That could be a big "if", however.
Comley, also the athletic director at Northern Michigan, re-
portedly makes more than $90,000 annually, which may be more
than DU atheletic director Jack McDonald wants to pay him.
"But Comley is Jack's No. 1 choice right now for the job,"
the source said.

"I certainly am interested, but we would need to work out a few
things," said Comley. ...
McDonald confirmed he has talked to Comley, but wouldn't concede
he is the No. 1 choice.
"To narrow it down to one guy would be unfair at this point,"
said McDonald. ...
Another prominent name said to have had contact with McDonald
is Maine coach Shawn Walsh. Walsh really could be McDonald's
first choice, considering Walsh was offered the DU job in 1989
at a reported $100,000 per year. But Walsh turned it down and
went on to win the NCAA title in 1993 with the Black Bears.
However, the DU job may look more appearling to Walsh now because
several star players, including Olimpian and '93 player of the
year Paul Karia, saying they won't return to Maine next year.

Three other coaches have expressed interest in the job. They
are Bowling Green's Jerry York, former RPI coach Mike Addesa,
and former North Dakota coach Gino Gasparini, who resigned
Saturday. Miami of Ohio coach George Gwozdecky also is a candidate.
