Keith Marder in this morning's T-U writes that Albany is again struggling to
obtain the 1994 ECAC tournament for the Knickerbocker Arena. According to
Marder, the Albany Sports Federation brought a 15 person delegation to Lake
Placid to make a presentation to ECAC executives, coaches and athletic director
directors at breakfast this morning. The delegation includes Albany's own
Tom Whalen, Pat Lynch, GM for the Knick, Gary Smith (?) president of the Board
of Directors and representatives from the major area hotels.

According to Marder Lake Placid has been criticized because the athletes have
been housed in the Olympic Village instead of hotels and that arena holds only
8,000. The Knick holds twice as much and is the central location in the league
league. ...Another factor in favor of Albany is that many of the city's
corporations will be sponsors. "We certainly had success with the NCAA hockey
Final Four," Smith said. We first started talking about the ECACs two years
ago. This is a good match for us."

ECAC executive director Joe Bertagna indicated that the league will meet in May
at Union College and a decision should be made by May at the latest.

Also, Ted Drury was named ECAC Player of the Year Thursday night, edging out
Yale center Mark Kaufmann by three votes. The article indicates RPI's Neil
Little finished fourth (don't know who was third.) Burke Murphy (St. Lawrence)
edged out Bryan Richardson (RPI) for Rookie of the Year (20 to 16). Roger
Demment (Dartmouth) was named Coach of the Year.
