When there were eight teams they used to have on-campus quarterfinals for a two game, total
goal series. They were able to use the arenas so this isn't any different, on campus for two days
just not the same teams.
Some of the western regionals were technically on-campus when they were hosted by Michigan
State, Michigan and Wisconsin. These generally were packed, although typically in smaller
arenas (6,000-8000?). When they weren't on-campus, the arenas were half-filled, although
typically larger sites (12,000-19,000). Whether on-campus or not, tickets are generally for visiting
teams.
