The first NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Division III Championship will be played
in March 2002. It will be a 6 team event. The playoff champions of the
NESCAC, ECAC D3 East and MIAC will be automatic qualifiers. Week one the
bottom 4 rated (PWR) sides will meet at campus sites. Week two the winners
will advance, along with the #2 team to the Frozen Four at the #1 PairWise
ranked side's campus site. The championship was inspired by the DIII
Presidents Council. Look for the 6 team D3 National Title tourney to
expand in the near future.

Note: because of the automatic qualifiers DI teams Holy Cross and Sacred
Heart and DII side St Michael's can not play in the ECAC D3 East playoffs.
The D3 campus site host for the FrozenD34 rotates between East and West
schools, based on the top PWR.

So maybe MIT will make the playoffs this year!
