The Gophers scored 4 goals in the first period Friday night and continued
their success against their neighbors. Justin McHugh scored 2 goals in
the first period giving him 8 goals in the 5 games he's played in since
returning from his knee injury.
 
Minnesota scored quickly in the opening period, getting power play goals
at 2:15 and 4:15. The 4 first period goals seemed to take the crowd out
of the game early, but I must say that UW's pep band sounded fantastic! I
would love to hear them in person!
 
No surprise there were plenty of penalties in this game. The game was
well called by Shepherd and Schmidt, each team amassing 12 minors each.
Minn was able to capitalize on 3 of its 6 pp opportunities. Wisc went 2
for 6. Minnesota got a 5 on 3 opportunity when 2 UW players were whistled
for 2:00 minors. The Gophers quickly scored on the 2 man advantage.
