are saying is, the puck bouncing off of the goaltender's equipment
constitutes control of the puck by the defensive team."
The puck bouncing off of the goaltender's equipment constitutes a shot
on goal AND a save by the goalie, so yes it does demonstrates control.
If it doesn't, then what is to stop forwards from axing him to death
with their sticks while he is in the crease? Particularly given
directives to referees to protect the goalie, what demonstrates control
by a goalie may not be sufficient control by other players (e.g. slap
shot from the point hitting a defending forward in the chest).
