Wow. UMass-Amherst dominated this game for two periods (except when
Bowdoin's top line of Charlie Gaffney, Joe Gaffney, and Marcello Gentile
was on the ice -- then the Polar Bears actually had some offense), but the
third period featured some of the best hockey a Bowdoin team has played,
not only this year, but in recent years.

UMass-Amherst is playing like a top ECAC East/West/SUNY team right now (in
other words, like a Division III NC$$ tournament contender). But, the
Minutemen went into a defensive shell in the third period, and it almost
cost them. Bowdoin scored three times, but the Polar Bears had several
other opportunities.

The major difference between these teams -- size! UMass-Amherst was taller
and bigger than Bowdoin. I was pleasantly surprised with the Polar Bears'
comback in the third period -- I was thinking that they would be worn down
physically. But the Minutemen stopped taking the game at Bowdoin -- and
the Polar Bears almost took advantage.

It was a fun game to watch, except for the after the whistle pushing-and
shoving that the officials did a nice job of controlling.
