  And a story ...

DURHAM, N.H. (AP) -- Eric Royal scored a goal with 26 seconds left to
play to
give New Hampshire a 5-4 victory over Vermont Saturday at Snively Arena in
Durham.
Taking a pass from Eric Flinton and Ted Russell, Royal skated through two
defenders and flipped it past goaltender Tim Thomas.
Vermont (0-2 overall, 0-0 ECAC) fought back from an early 3-0 deficit as
the
Wildcats (2-0 overall, 0-0 Hockey East) scored three first-period goals for
the
second night in a row.
Vermont closed out the first period scoring on a power play goal by Corey
Machanic with the assist going to Martin St. Louis and Dominique Ducharme.
Eric Perrin scored a shorthanded goal for Vermont at 11:03 of the second,
one-timing it past Mike Heinke with the assist coming from St. Louis and
Machanic.
The two teams traded goals in the third with Vermont scoring first on a
power
play goal by St. Louis with the assist going to Ducharme and Perrin.
New Hampshire returned the favor on their own power play 1:52 later,
scoring
on a goal by Nick Poole, who took a pass from Kent Schmidtke.
Vermont's Matt Johnson tied the score on a controversial goal while
Heinke
was held up behind the net. Royal returned to finish off Vermont and win the
game.
