My personal feeling is that as long as the cheer is not profane (read
"RED!" at Cornell games) then why not?? I do know that some people may
feel that this is unpatriotic. This was certainly the case last year when
Cornell visited RPI's Houston Fieldhouse. A certain security guard standing
near the Cornell visiting section was more than upset and did not hesitate to
express his displeasure to us. Oh well, some people just have to lighten up
a little and enjoy life more.
With regard to other cheers during the Anthem.....I lived near Washington
D.C. for three years and the fans at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore always
shouted "O!" in the anthem for "O"rioles at baseball games. This also
carried over to those Oriole fans who attended Washington Capitals and Bullets
games. So I guess the moral of the story is...... If people in the nation's
capital can yell during the National Anthem then hey so can we all :-)!!
