UConn freshman goaltender Scott Tomes made 43 saves and the balance of
the Husky squad took advantage of Brown's failure to capitalize on numerous
quality scoring opportunities by tallying a goal in the early portion of the
third period and then giving the Bears all they could handle through the
balance of regulation and a five-minute overtime. Tomes used great
positioning all night to thwart the Bear attack and was tested on six shots
in the overtime period alone.
The Bears' sophomore forward Joe Bauer opened the scoring at 13:23 of
the first period when he beat Tomes cleanly between the left pad and the
post off pinpoint passes from sophomore forwards Cory Caouette and Rugo
Santini. After a scoreless second period, the Huskies got the equalizer
when Bill Crum walked out of the left corner and fired a wrister past Bear
junior goalie Scott Rowan at 6:03 of the third. UConn sophomore forwards
Marcus Baxter and Chris Uber picked up assists on the tying goal.
The Bears will have little time to mull what might have been as they
head out to Durham, NH to meet the #9 New Hampshire Wildcats at the
Whittemore Center tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m.
