WAYNE STATE HANDS HUSKIES 4-2 DEFEAT AT HOME

HOUGHTON, Mich. -- Things didn't go exactly as planned Friday night
at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena as two-time defending College
Hockey America champion Wayne State handed Michigan Tech a 4-2
non-conference defeat in men's ice hockey action.

The Warriors neutral-zone trap bottled up the Huskies for most of the
first period, although the stanza ended in a 1-1 standoff. The
Warriors scored first at 9:54 on a third rebound try. Tech evened the
game as Clay Wilson's shot from the point found the back of the net
with the Huskies on the power play at 19;06.

Tech got the only goal of period two to take a 2-1 lead after 40
minutes. Bryan Perez did the damage at 3:42 as he beat WSU netminder
Matt Kelly between the legs. Chris Conner and Brett Engelhardt drew
assists.

Wayne State, however, scored three times in the third period to gain
the road victory, including goals at 4:20, 12:11, and 15:44.

Sophomore Cam Ellsworth had 29 saves in the loss, while Kelly picked
up the win with 25 stops.

The two teams meet again Saturday (Nov. 29) in the conclusion of the
two-game series.

Notes: Tech was outshot by a 33-27 count, although the Huskies had a
14-11 advantage in the third period . . . Tonight's game featured
Wilkinson's on opposite benches -- MTU assistant coach Peter
Wilkinson on one side and his father Bill, WSU's head coach, on the
other . . . Tech senior Greg Amadio played forward tonight. The last
time Amadio played forward, he was six years old.
