MEN'S HOCKEY COMES BACK TO DEFEAT SLU
Two third period goals by Kevin Croxton the difference in 2-1 win

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) got two third period goals from freshman forward Kevin Croxton and 34 saves from Nathan Marsters to defeat St. Lawrence University, 2-1, in an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division I men's hockey game at the Houston Field House in Troy, N.Y. With the victory RPI improved to 5-5-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the ECAC. The SLU is now 2-6-1 and 1-2-0.

The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the first period when senior Jim Lorentz skated across the crease and scored on a backhander. For Lorentz, who tallied on a power play, the goal was his third of the season. Senior Blair Clarance tallied his seventh assist and Ziga Petac his first on the goal.

After a scoreless second period, the Engineers came-from-behind in the third period. Croxton tallied the first of his career when he took a pass from defenseman Matt McNeely, skated down the left side and scored into the top left corner of the net on a backhander. The goal came at 3:10 of the third period. For McNeely, a sophomore who picked up a loose puck to start the play, the assist was his second of the season. Croxton, a native of Calgary, Alb., notched the eventual game-winning goal just 4:16 later when he slammed home a Keith MCWilliams pass from just outside the right side of the crease. For McWilliams, a freshman defenseman, the assist was his third of the season.

Marsters, a junior, was outstanding throughout as he made 12 saves in the first period, nine in the second and 31 in the third. Kevin Ackley, a sophomore, made 15 saves in suffering the loss.

The Engineers are back in action with two ECAC games next weekend. They will be at Yale on Friday night and Princeton on Saturday. Both games will begin at 7pm. St. Lawrence will host league opponents Harvard and Brown next Friday and Saturday nights at 7pm.
