Official release from the RPI SID

Harvard (8-5-3, 7-2-2 ECAC) 0 3 2 - 5
Rensselaer (7-6-2, 2-3-2 ECAC) 2 0 0 - 2

TROY, NY - The Harvard men's hockey team rallied from a 2-0 deficit after the first period to score five unanswered goals, and freshman Tom Cavanagh (Warwick, RI) netted a pair of tallies to propel the Crimson to a 5-2 win at Rensselaer in ECAC Hockey action on Saturday evening. The Crimson improves
to 8-5-3 overall and increases its first-place standing in conference play with a 7-2-2 mark (16 points). The Engineers fall to 7-6-2 and 2-3-2 in the ECAC.

The Engineers took a 1-0 lead in the first when Danny Eberly (Canton, MA) put a shot on net that was saved by Harvard freshman netminder Grumet-Morris. The rebound came back out to the right side, where it was collected by senior winger Matt Murley (Troy, NY) and redirected back over Dov Grumet-Morris' (Evanston, IL) glove hand for the Engineer goal. It was
Murley's ninth of the year.

Murley helped the home team to a 2-0 advantage on the power play when he took a feed from Carson Butterwick (Prince Albert, SASK) and set up junior Marc Cavosie (Cahoes, NY) at the base of the face-off circle for the center's ECAC-best 10th goal of the season.

The Crimson cut into the lead early into the second frame. Tim Pettit (Seattle, WA) collected the puck behind the net, and found freshman Andrew Lederman (Toronto, ONT) on the right side. Lederman slid the puck through the crease to classmate Cavanagh on the doorstep for Cavanagh's fourth tally of the season at the 2:04 mark. Harvard tied the game just over three
minutes later, when winger Dennis Packard (Kingston, PA) brought the puck into the offensive zone and dished it out to a streaking Brett Nowak (New Haven, CT). Nowak's initial shot was saved, but he collected his own rebound and was able to slide the puck behind the pads of RPI goalie Kevin Kurk (Orchard Park, NY) for his career-high eighth goal of the season.

Nowak and Packard combined again to give the Crimson a 3-2 lead late in the second frame. Nowak received the puck from Aaron Kim (Deerfield, IL) on the odd-man rush, and pulled back to allow Packard to get low. He laced a pretty cross-slot pass to his winger, who beat Kurk stick-side for his career-best sixth goal of the year.

The Crimson came out in the third and scored its fourth unanswered goal, coming from the stick of Cavanagh just :37 seconds into the period. The freshman gave the Crimson the 4-2 lead while the Crimson was killing a penalty assessed to Dave McCulloch (Lacombe, Alberta) in the waning seconds of the second frame. Harvard iced the victory with a goal late in the third period when Rob Fried (Macon, GA) was set up by linemates Tyler Kolarik (Abington, PA) and Dominic Moore (Thornhill, ONT) for his third of the season. Kurk finished his night with 30 saves, while Grumet-Morris improved to 4-0 in conference play, making 34 stops.

Harvard will return home to host Yale and Princeton next weekend, while the Engineers will make the trip north to tangle with Clarkson and St. Lawrence.
