I haven't seen a review of the UNH at RPI game on Tuesday 7 Jan 92, so I'll
put in my RPI biased 2 cents.

The first period opened with RPI playing hard (as they have in the last two
games I've seen). It did very little good since UNH was able to put in two
goals. I would consider both goals to be a breakdown in the RPI defense:
one, a breakaway, went right by Little, and the other was when RPI defense
thought it would be better to fall down than actually stop the puck. RPI
came back with a goal later.

Even so, RPI apparently dominated the 1st period. The problem with RPI is
that they are like a bunch of wild horses. A lot of skills, a lot of energy,
but a failure of teamwork. The UNH team had better skills and teamwork, in
my opinion, but by the end couldn't keep up with the Engineers.

The second and third periods saw the Engineers get four more goals, while UNH
was only able to earn one in the last 3 minutes during a 6 on 3. As in the
last game, RPI kept the fans on the edge of the seats (and sometimes standing
up) due to almost-goals.

I feel I must say something about the officiating. (Alas, I can only remember
one linesman-- Toner.) There were no more than 5 penalties the whole game.
A overly refreshing respite from the over-protective reffing of Galipeau.
Even a lenient ref calls a penalty or two when helmets get knocked off, not
this guy. At least he was equally blind for both teams. (None of this
insipid waving off the goal seen in previous games.)

In the last three minutes of so of the game, however, there was a fight. (At
the risk of appearing too biased, it occured right in front of my section.)
I didn't see it start, but I saw most of it. The RPI player (Majic?) was
olding the UNH guys head away in an effort to keep himself from getting hit.
UNH guy lost his glove and punched RPI's helmet. This went on, with a
linesman trying to separate them and RPI backing off. We could see the UNH
guy holding his jersy and trying to hit him. RPI was just trying to get out
of it. Alas, the ref made an outrageous call, giving RPI a _double_ minor and
a 10 minute misconduct (apparently for not fighting hard enough) and UNH a
single minor and a 10 minute misconduct.

This, coupled with another questionable (but probably correct) penalty on RPI
led to a six on three where UNH picked up its last goal.

A good (poorly attended) game... but on a Tuesday?!
