The HE league schedule goes on hold after Dec 10-11, when the final three
HE games of the semester will be played. Play resumes on 1/3/91 when
UNH hosts Merrimack, then gets into full swing on 1/10/91. No HE teams
will be in action the weekend of Dec 13-14 due to exams. Above is the
schedule for all HE teams through Christmas.
BOSTON UNIVERSITY 10, at NORTHEASTERN 7 (Fri)
The lead changed hands six times before BU got 5 of 8 third-period goals
to nail down its win. BU got a pair of goals from Kaj Linna and Doug
Friedman, while NU's Sebastien Laplante (2-2--4) and Jay Schiavo (1-3--4)
each had four point nights. The Huskies were without six players who were
serving one-game suspensions for curfew violations during the Ottawa
Tournament, which NU won last weekend. Four shorthanded goals and two
power play goals were scored in the game. It was the highest scoring
game between the two long-time rivals since BU defeated NU 12-5 in 1946-47;
this was the 131st meeting. From the halfway mark of the second period
through the halfway mark of the third, an amazing 13 goals were scored
(BU 8, NU 5).

Shane Henry scored two goals, both on the power play, and added an assist
as the Chiefs rebounded from a 2-1 deficit after one to remain unbeaten
in HE play. Mike Murray's two assists give him 15-9--24 on the season,
which keeps him among HE's overall leaders.

Scott Pellerin had 3-1--4 and six other players added goals for the Black
Bears, who had 47 shots on net to UNH's 10 (or 11 depending who you ask).
UNH coach Dick Umile had set his VCR to tape the game off of tv, but after
20 seconds the picture was scrambled. All in all, not a good night for
the undermanned Wildcats.

at MERRIMACK 3, ARMY 2 (Fri)
Jeff Massey's goal with 56 seconds left broke a 2-2 tie and helped
Merrimack back to the .500 mark overall (7-7-0). It didn't diminish a
fantastic goaltending performance by Army's Brandon Hayes (24 saves).

BC's John Joyce scored to tie the game at 4-4 with six seconds left,
then he robbed Tom Dion and got the winner at 1:41 of overtime for a
big BC win on the road. BC also got two from Rob Canavan, and Scott
LaGrand made 36 saves. BU spread out its scoring as four different
players twanged the twine and only Mark Bavis had more than one point
(2 assists).

Maine took over first place in HE with its 11th straight win over UNH.
The Black Bears are undefeated in their last 26 and 53 of the last 54
games at Alfond Arena. Downey had 1-2--3 to lead Maine. This was a
much closer game, 4-2 until Conlan put it out of reach with 4:12 left.
It was Maine's 110th straight sellout at Alfond.

Mike Taylor's hat trick, including an empty-netter with two seconds left,
gave the Huskies their first Hockey East win of the season. Providence
led 5-4 halfway through the third before Taylor and Joel Bishop scored
to regain the lead for good for NU. Dino Grossi had three assists for the
Hounds, and Craig Darby had a goal and two assists for PC. NU has now
scored at least six goals in each of its last four games with the only
loss coming to BU.
