If the Olympic Committee is able to hammer out a deal with the NHL that
would allow pros to play in the olympics I would say that would pretty
much mark the complete demise of the Olympics.

After the whole Tonya/Nancy media ratings sham of the last olympics as
well as allowing pros like boitano and witt to compete for medals,
allowing NHL hockey player would pretty much prove that the olympic
committee is no longer interested in sports, athletics and competition
but rather only concerned about tv ratings and advertising revenues.

The implications of having NHL players play in the olympics would be a
positive thing for college hockey, because instead of losing their best
players to the pursuit of olympic glory, college teams would be able to
keep their best players for the pursuit NCAA championship glory instead.

Sure, it will be too bad that some great young players won't get the
opportunity other great college players have had, competeting for their
country and all that, but if the olympic committee decides great
marketing and advertising is more important than giving young amerature
athletes a chance to play for their country, then let the stupid olympics
continue their downward spiral towards the Fox Network set levels of smut
and mindless hype which brough the US international glory with the 92
summer olympics "Dream Team" in basketball.

The olympics are quickly becoming simply tool of VISA, MasterCard, Chevy
and MicroSoft. It's too bad that such a great thing as the olympics has
had to become just another marketing hype.
