Senior Night at Ferris State did not turn out as kindly for the home team as
Senior Night did in East Lansing on Friday, as the Bulldogs were pasted 6-1
by a Michigan State team that showed up to play and did from start to finish.

For only the second time in 5 games, MSU scored in the first period when the
Spartans' major offensive player for the month, Sean Berens, notched a goal in
his third straight game (he didn't even need to have MSU be shorthanded this
time). Anson Carter added only his second goal of the month to take the
Spartans into the dressing room up 2-0.

MSU added goals from Murray (off a won faceoff by Suk), Carter on a breakaway
during a 4-on-4 period, and a shorthanded goal by Chris Slater to go up 5-0
before FSU scored late in the second when Tim Christian, who was alone at the
MSU blue line, fed Kolenda cutting for the front of the MSU net. The Spartans
added a power play goal (yes, miracles do happen occasionally) late in the
third by Steve Suk to make it 6-1.

MSU controlled the play from the opening faceoff and never really let up in
pressuring the Bulldogs. Mike Buzak had a relatively easy night, surrenduring
one goal in each of his last three starts. The win keeps the Spartans at least
in a tie for third, depending on the outcome of games at Bowling Green (OSU-BG)
and Sault Ste. Marie (WMU-LSSU) [it's not that these games aren't over, I
just don't know what the hell happened].

MSU completes the regular season next week with trips to Ohio State and
Miami. A win in either game clinches fourth place for MSU (the Spartans win
the tiebreaker with LSSU).

(The trip home was an adventure in its own right, which I may have time to
write up on Monday or Tuesday.)
