This is part of it.  While there weren't any complaints from Native
American groups, the school wanted to make the change to avoid any future
trouble.  The nickname change should've coincided with the change of the
school's name (from Univ. of Lowell to UMass-Lowell), but they were a year
late.

You mean the chicken-hawks??!?!?!  You should hear some of the comments
the faithful make every time they take the ice......
