FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MTU TO TANGO WITH NORTHERN MICHIGAN THIS WEEKEND
Home-and-Home Series To Finish in Houghton Saturday

This Week: The Michigan Technological University hockey team will play a
home-and-home Western Collegiate Hockey Association series against Northern
Michigan University this weekend. Friday's game (Feb. 17) will be staged at
the Lakeview Arena (4,105) in Marquette, Mich., with opening faceoff slated
for 7:05 p.m. Saturday's (Feb. 18) rematch will take place at the MacInnes
Student Ice Arena (4,200) in Houghton, Mich., with faceoff scheduled for
7:05 p.m.

On Radio: All Michigan Tech games can be heard live on WZRK radio, 93.5 FM.
Bob Olson, the dean of broadcasters in the WCHA, is in his 24th season as
the voice of the Huskies. Volunteer assistant coach Darcy Way is back for
his fifth year providing color commentary.

The Records: MTU is 14-13-4 on the season overall and 11-12-3 in the WCHA.
Northern Michigan is 10-17-3 in all games and 9-14-3 in the WCHA.

The Coaches: Bob Mancini (Colorado College, 1982) is in his third year
behind the bench at MTU. He owns a 44-55-14 record at the school and in
four-plus years as a college head coach sports an 80-86-25 mark. Rick
Comley (Lake Superior State, 1972) is in his 19th season in charge of the
Northern Michigan hockey program. Comley, who also doubles as the school's
athletics director, has a career record of 408-300-41 at the school. In
21-plus seasons as a college head coach, he owns a 467-346-44 mark.

The Series: Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan will meet for the 73rd and
74th times this weekend. In the all-time series, which began during the
1979-80 campaign, the Wildcats hold a slim 34-33-5 advantage. Earlier this
season (Nov. 4-5), MTU gained 3-1 and 6-2 victories over the Wildcats.

Coach Mancini on the Northern Michigan Series: "This series comes at a good
time of the year. I'm sure there will be a playoff-like atmosphere for both
games and that is a good mindset for our team to get into down the home
stretch."

Coach Mancini on the Alaska Anchorage Series: "We made a nice comeback on
Friday to secure a very important win, however, on Saturday we just dug
ourselves too big a hole to climb out of. Give Chris Davis credit, however.
He made 43 saves.
