UMD lost Taras Lendzyk, their starting goalie for all but one game this
season, 8 minutes into the second period, but senior Niklas Axelsson came
in and played well as the Bulldogs beat North Dakota 6-4 Friday night at
Grand Forks. Landon Wilson came in for a rebound and hit his knee
against Lendzyk's head, jamming his neck. Defenseman Jason Watt took
offense and the ensuing extra-curricular activity caused Watt and Wilson
to be ejected. Axelsson saved 19 shots, and the pipes stopped another
three, as the Dogs pulled out to a 5-1 lead and the Sioux never got
within two after that.
Interesting Stat: After no empty net goals in their first 24 games, the
Bulldogs have 1 in each of the last 2 games.
Same two teams tonight, 7:35.
