Well, despite the officiating of John "Do I get paid by the penalty"
Gallagher and John "We better make sure the penalty box door ain't broke"
Murphy, Clarkson still managed to nearly beat highly ranked RPI. But
the Knights fell just short, 5-4.

Clarkson, true to form, fell behind early as they gave up two goals in
the first half of the opening period. The Knights made it 2-1 before
intermission.

RPI appeared to have put away the Knights with a pair of 2nd period
power play goals, both (I think) coming off a 5-on-3. Clarkson goalie
Jason Currie was spectacular on the 3 3-on-5's he had to face. Downright
spectacular. However, with the score 4-1, Clarkson was revived with
a power play goal of its own and another tally to make it 4-3 after
2.

Clarkson dominated the final session pressuring RPI goalie Neil Little
but not getting that many excellent shots. Finally, with 2:21, referee
John Gallagher sealed the game by calling a phantom roughing penalty
on Clarkson defenseman Matt Pagnutti. After the all the physical play
he let go in the 3rd period (not in the first two), no one could believe
he coudl that penalty.

Early in the power play, RPI seemed to have clinched the game with a quick
goal on which Jason Currie made the initial two saves. Clarkson did
pressure and in a scrum in front of Little, the puck was somehow jabbed
in making it 5-4. Clarkson won the next faceoff and forced a faceoff
in front of Little with :06 left but the Engineers won the faceoff and ran
out the clock.

RPI outshot the Knights ~39-30.

More later.

THREE STARS
1) Jason Currie, Clarkson
2) Brad Layzell, RPI
3) Neil Little, RPI/Craig Conroy, Clarkson
