Headline: Olympic coach to make roster cuts
Publish Date: 08/11/1993
ēRM138PTēThe final selections for the 1994 U.S. Olympic hockey team
will be announced today.
Yale University and U.S. Olympic coach Tim Taylor said Sunday that
the first week of the Olympic trials have gone well.
Four members of last season's Gopher squad are attending the Olympic
team's final tryout camp, which started Tuesday at the Tri-Town
Sports Center in Cromwell, Conn.
Gopher players Craig Johnson, Darby Hendrickson, Jeff Nielsen and
former Gopher Travis Richards are trying out for the U.S. squad.
The Olympic roster will be trimmed from 35 to 23 following the first
cuts.
"Things are going to be tough," Taylor said of the final selections.
The U.S. Olympic team will leave immediately for a three-week
European tour at the conclusion of the two-week camp.
The team will play in the Tampere Cup Aug. 19-22 in Finland and the
Epson Cup Sept. 2-4 in Germany. It will return to Europe about 10
days before the Olympics in February in Lillehammer, Norway, for some
late tuneups.
