UMASS DARTMOUTH IS 13TH IN USCHO.COM WEEKLY DIVISION III POLL
MINNEAPOLIS, MN–The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s hockey team is ranked 13th in the annual pre-season United States College Hockey Online Division III poll.
The Corsairs, who were rated 10th in the pre-season poll but dropped to 15th in the first weekly poll, advanced two spots after winning at Stonehill last Wednesday night and defeating Plymouth State Saturday in their 2007-08 home opener.
to the NCAA Division III playoffs for the second year in a row last season and were sixth in last year’s final poll, are the highest ranked team from their conference, the Eastern College Athletic Conference Northeast.
Wisconsin-River Falls is ranked first, followed by Middlebury, Hobart, Elmira and St. Norbert. ECAC Northeast rival Curry is among the teams also receiving votes.
The Corsairs’ first round opponent January 4th in the Times-Argus Tournament is Norwich, which is ranked 11th. Babson, which will play UMass Dartmouth Tuesday evening at Hetland Arena, is ranked ninth after a 2-0-0 start.
UMass Dartmouth, which is 53-8 during its past 61 games and has gone 14-1, won the ECAC Northeast championship and advanced to the NCAA Division III playoffs in each of the past two years, will host the Beavers in a rematch of last year’s first round game at the Babson Tournament at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Hetland Arena.
