There were probably several factors involved in Air Force moving to
Atlantic Hockey
a) one can see some benefit from the service academies being in the
   same league
b) believe it or not, travel is easier in atlantic hockey. There is
   really not a whole lot of difference between a 2 hour plane ride and a
   4 hour plane ride. The differences are whether you have a non stop
   or not, and the bus ride at the other end. In the CHA, bemidji is
   ugly to get to.  Huntsville involves either a change of planes
   involving regional jets or a bus ride of 3 to 4 hours from a hub.
   Buffalo also involves a change of planes and probably a regional
   jet.
c) with the larger league, there is less need to schedule non
   conference games
