One player on that team was Willard Ikola, who did fall in to category (b).
He was another of the players from Eveleth and was on the team with
John Mayasich who went undefeated in high school for four seasons.
However, they went separate ways for college.  Ikola won two titles with
Michigan, including one against Minnesota.

Ikola did play on the silver medal 1956 Olympic team.  But, his greatest
post-college success may have been as a high school coach for Edina, in
Minnesota.  He was there for 33 years and won eight state
championships.  His record there, after a 4-9-5 first season, was 616-149-
38.
