Brown added two more points to bring its conference leading total to
eight as the Bears stifled the Princeton Tigers recent success against the
Harvard Crimson by posting a decisive 5-1 victory at Meehan Auditorium this
evening. Brown is now 21-2-6 in its last 29 starts at Meehan and the
Brown-Harvard weekend pairing has become one of the most daunting road trips
on the ECAC circuit.

The chemistry on the Bears' first line is showing a marked improvement
and the return of junior forward Les Haggett to the top unit has already
started to pay substantial dividends. Tonight, Haggett collected three more
assists (all on power play opportunities) as he set up senior forward Brent
Robinson for two goals and freshman forward Brian Ihnacak for one goal
during the contest. Ihnacak, the team's leading scorer (4g, 3a = 7 pts.),
also combined with sophomore forward Cory Caouette and senior defenseman
Scott Ford to tally the Bears' second goal after freshman forward Sean
Dersch had opened the Brown scoring with assists from junior defenseman Paul
Crosty and freshman forward Antonin Roux.

A determined Bear squad was able to hold the Tigers off until the 13:00
minute mark of the final period when Princeton's Grant Goeckner-Zoeller
spoiled Bear senior goaler Yann Danis' bid for a third shutout his first
five conference games. Danis holds the all-time Brown record for career
shutouts with ten (the previous record of eight was eclipsed last season).

Brown thereby completes an ECAC & Ivy League weekend sweep and
solidifies its first place conference standing by extending its record to
4-1-0. Moreover, Yann Danis continues to build his impressive start by
compiling what are becoming incredible statistics. He currently has a
goals-against average of 0.80 and a save percentage of .969 (one of the five
goals Brown has allowed was an empty netter against Dartmouth).

Thus the Bears lead the ECAC after five games despite minimal preseason
fanfare, and it will be interesting to see whether they have earned any
additional recognition in next week's national poll.

SCORING:
Brown 1 3 1 = 5
Princeton 0 0 1 = 1

PENALTIES:
Brown 4 for 8 min.
Princeton 9 for 18 min.

POWER PLAYS:
Brown 3/8
Princeton 0/2

SAVES:
Danis (Brown) 9 7 4 = 20
Leroux (Princeton) 9 8 7 = 24

The Bears will be off next weekend and meet Providence College in the
18th annual Mayor's Cup game a week from this coming Tuesday at Schneider
Arena. The Friars are currently 6-3-2 overall (2-3-2 HEA) and this
non-conference match-up should produce the usual spirited battle for
intra-city bragging rights. The game will be telecast on local cable and
game time is 7:00 p.m.
