ELLSWORTH NAMED NATIONAL
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK!

HOUGHTON, Mich. -- Sophomore goaltender Cam Ellsworth of the
Michigan Tech men's ice hockey team has been named the National
Defensive Player of the Week by U.S. College Hockey Online for his
efforts in MTU's home series vs. second-ranked Colorado College last
weekend.
Ellsworth stopped 94-of-100 CC shots on the weekend and
allowed just four even-strength goals. In Friday's (Jan. 17) 3-3
overtime tie, the Leamington, Ontario, native made 39 saves,
including six in overtime. And then in a 3-1 loss on Saturday (Jan.
18) he made a career-high 55 saves, including 28 in a scoreless first
period. The 28 saves marked the third most in a period in WCHA
history and tied the Tech record for most saves in a single period.
"Cam played very, very well," said Tech Head Coach Mike
Sertich. "It's nice to see him honored nationally."
Ellsworth has started all but one game this year for the
Huskies. With his effort vs. Colorado College, he improved his saves
percentage in WCHA play to .900 on the season.
Michigan Tech will host Alaska Anchorage Friday (Jan. 24) and
Saturday (Jan. 25) at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena in Houghton.
Opening faceoff is set for 7:05 both nights.
