Dartmouth win stolen by official (no I'm not biased or anything. ;-) ), game
ends in 3-3 tie.

Clarkson was handed a tie tonight, as the official waved off a perfectly good
shorthanded goal late in the second that would've put Dartmouth up 4-2 and
given them all momentum heading into the last stanza. Unfortunatly for the home
crowd at Thompson, the ref had an an extremely quick whistle, so quick that
there's no way he could've known if the goalie had trapped the puck or not
(which he didn't) since he blew it as soon as the goalie deflected the shot,
which then trickled into the net. Of course for the rest of the game the ref
had an extremely slow whistle, but by that point the damage was done. Dartmouth
lost its momentum, Clarkson tied it up early in the 3rd, and that's how it
ended. It's one thing to screw up or miss a couple of penalties (which of
course he did tonight as well), but to cost a team a shorthanded goal because
you've got an itchy trigger finger from out of position is horrendus,
especially when a linesmen was in perfect position and called it a goal.

I haven't felt this robbed or pissed off by an official in a long, long time -
I think maybe going back to the '94 Orange Bowl when the refs handed the game
and the mythical national title to Florida State over Nebraska. To this day I
can remember 5 horrendous calls from that game, which by themselves resulted in
a 21 point swing for Florida State (nullified 2 Nebraska touchdown's, gave FSU
one that shouldn't have counted).

This also marks 2 home games in a row that Dartmouth has has perfectly clean
goals waved off - 2 weeks ago against UVM they ruled the puck never went in
when it clearly hit the back of the net.

Oh well, hopefully Dartmouth is pissed off and takes out their frustrations on
SLU tomorrow.
