HUSKIES LOST TO NIAGARA, SPLIT WITH BEMIDJI STATE - The St. Cloud State
women's ice hockey team fell to the Niagara Purple Eagles Friday night at
the National Hockey Center, 7-0. The Huskies, which played their last game
on Dec. 9 against Ohio State University, were short several players for the
non-conference matchup.  The Purple Eagles (8-9-1 overall, 3-8-1 ECAC)
jumped to a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period. They continued their
scoring spree with three more goals in the second period and two in the
third period. St. Cloud State, missing two of their top scorers in Rachel
Denner, Ricki-Lee Doyle and Kobi Kawamoto, were out-shot 42-22.  Niagara's
Lindsay Vine had a hat trick for the Purple Eagles. Vine scored at 10:29 in
the first period, 4:58 and 16:54 of the second period. First-year goalie
Laura Brinkman, starting her third game of the season for the Huskies, had
28 saves for SCSU. Niagara's Tania Pinelli made some acrobatic saves for
the Purple Eagle's and her 7th win of the season.  The Huskies lost to the
Bemidji State Beavers Sunday afternoon at the National Hockey Center, 4-3,
but came back in the third period after being down 4-2, to defeat BSU 5-4
on Monday.  First-year forward Ricki-Lee Doyle led the Huskies in both
games, scoring all five of her goals in the third period.  First-year
defender Kobi Kawamoto, also scored five points for the Huskies (two goals,
three assists).  The Huskies came back in dramatic form Monday afternoon
will the help of Doyle.  Doyle scored her first natural hat trick of her
collegiate career in the third period, lifting SCSU to  a 9-10-1, 5-6-1
WCHA record.

2000-01 TEAM CAPTAINS: The team captains for the 2000-01 season are junior
defenders Tara McNamara and assistant captain Katy Battis.

HEAD COACH: Kerry Brodt Wethington is in her third season as the head coach
for the women's hockey program at St. Cloud State. She joined the staff in
1998-99, and is the first women's hockey coach in the history of the
program at SCSU Brodt Wethington is a 1995 graduate of SCSU. She is also a
coach for the U.S. Community Olympic Development Program for girls ice
hockey and the founder and director of the Skater's Link Hockey Clinic.

ASSISTANT COACHING STAFF: David Prokop is the first-ever assistant coach
hired for the SCSU women's hockey team. He joined the staff in1998-99, and
since that time has been one of the team's top recruiters.  Prokop
graduated with a bachelors degree from Concordia College in Moorhead Jean
Vaillancourt joined the staff at SCSU in 1999-2000. He brings a varied
hockey background to the SCSU program, having coached both men and women in
Ontario. Vaillancourt earned a degree in Human Kinetics form the University
of Ottawa in 1997.

THE OPPONENTS: The Wisconsin Badgers, which are in their second year as a
ice hockey program, are led by freshman forward Meghan Hunter.  In 12
conference games, Hunter leads the league in points scored (22-16=38).
Hunter has also scored the most power play points (7-9=16).  Sophomore
forward Kendra Antony is also in the top five in scoring, with nine goals
and 13 assists for 22 points.  The Badgers are currently second in the
conference in scoring offense with 62 goals (5.17 goals per game).  At the
realm for the Badgers is interim coach Trina Bourget.  Bourget was an
assistant coach for the Badgers last year.  The last time these two teams
met was Oct. 27-28 in Madison.  UW defeated SCSU 6-2 in both games.  The
Badgers lead the series 6-0.

LIVE FROM KVSC: KVSC 88.1 FM will broadcast two remaining games this season
for the Huskies. KVSC will be at the Huskies February 16th game at 7:05
p.m., and February 17th at 3:05 p.m. against MN-Duluth at the National
Hockey Center. If you can't make it to the game, be sure to tune in!

SCSU RANKINGS:  Currently, two Huskies are in the top ten in the league for
most points scored.  Doyle (11-9-20) is 7th in the conference and McLeod
(4-14-18) is in 10th place, averaging 1.5 points per game.  McLeod is 3rd
on the list from most assists with 14 and Doyle is in second place for most
power play points.  Doyle, who is 7-4-11 in power play points, is right
behind Wisconsin's Meghan Hunter (7-9-16).  As a team, the Huskies are
third in the WCHA for power play percentage.  In 12 league games, SCSU has
converted 18 of 70 power plays for goals, a 25.7 percent rate.

HUSKY INFO:   Junior defender and assistant captain Katy Battis (W. St.
Paul) returned to action January 5 against Niagara after missing 14 games
with a grade 2 MCL strain which she suffered Oct. 20 against
MSU-Mankato Amanda Mathison also returned to the Huskies line-up after
being sidelined since Nov. 10 with a head injury Sophomore forward Kirsten
Olson has transferred to Gustavus Adulphus for the spring semester the
February 23rd game against Ohio State will begin at 3:05 p.m., not at 4:05
p.m.  The Huskies earned their first wins of the 2000-2001 season with
double wins on Oct. 20-21 against MSU-Mankato, 5-1 and 6-1 two current SCSU
players have played all three season of Husky hockey - Tara McNamara and
Sondra Diaz-Arntzen.  McNamara has appeared in all 77 of the games played
at St. Cloud State in two and a half seasons.

1999-2000 SEASON WRAP: Finishing atop the scoring chart for SCSU was
sophomore forward Fiona McLeod, who scored 18 goals and 12 assists for 30
points in 1999-2000.  McLeod's 30 points makes her the all-time leading
scorer in the short history of SCSU women's hockey Finishing just behind
McLeod in scoring was first year forward Jennifer Swanson, who tallied 11
goals and 18 assists for 29 points..  Other leading scorers for SCSU were
sophomore Amanda Presenger (8-10-18), first year forward Abby Cooper
(9-6-15), first year forward Erin McNamara (7-10-17), and junior forward
Rachel Denner (9-4-13
