PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Providence College men’s hockey team is ranked No. 9
in the nation, according to the latest US College Hockey Online Poll and
the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine Coaches Poll released on Monday,
December 4, 2000.
The 8-3-3 Friars posted a 1-1-0 record last week. On December 1,
PC was defeated by HOCKEY EAST rival Merrimack, 4-1, at Schneider
Arena. On December 2, the Friars defeated Merrimack, 7-3, at the Volpe
Complex in North Andover, Mass.
Last weekend, senior Matt Libby (Saco, Maine) tallied two goals
and two assists in PC's 7-3 win at Merrimack. Sophomore Devin Rask
(Parkside, Saskatchewan) chipped in with four assists and is currently
leading the Friars in scoring with 18 points (eight goals, 10
assists). Sophomore Nolan Schaefer (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) and senior
Boyd Ballard (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) have shared the Friars’ goaltending
duties. This season, the duo have combined for a 2.25 goals against
average and a .931 save percentage.
The Friars will return to action Friday, December 8, versus
UMass-Amherst College at 7:00 p.m.
