SCSU Men's Hockey Release 12/5/00
Upcoming Games:
    Dec. 8 - #14 Wisconsin vs. #8 SCSU, 7:05 p.m. (CST)
    Dec. 9 - #14 Wisconsin vs. #8 SCSU, 7:05 p.m. (CST)

UPCOMING GAMES: The #8 St. Cloud State menšs hockey team (10-3-1, 5-3-0
WCHA) will entertain the #14 University of Wisconsin (10-8-0, 7-5-0 WCHA) on
Dec. 8 at 7:05 p.m. and Dec. 9 at 7:05 p.m. Both games will be played at
SCSUšs National Hockey Center (cap. 5,763). SCSU was ranked #8 in the last
Division I hockey poll released on Dec. 4.

THE RESULTS: SCSU returned to WCHA play with a series at Michigan Tech. On
Dec. 1, the Huskies gained a 4-3 overtime win over MTU. Jon Cullen tallied
the game winner at 3:38 of overtime with a dish from Duvie Westcott and Matt
Hendricks. Cullen also scored the second goal of the game with an assist
from Hendricks and Keith Anderson in the second period. Mark Hartigan open
the barrage with a goal at 1:59 of the second with assists from Ryan Malone
and Joe Motzko. SCSU completed the second period at 11:52 with Anyd
Lundbohmšs goal with assists credited to Ritchie Larson and Lee Brooks. MTU
tied the game at the 1:25 mark of the third with a goal by Chris Durno.
Scott Meyer was the goalie of record with a season-high 34 saves...on Dec.
2, the Huskies posted a 4-3 win at MTU. Larson was the hero late in the
contest with the game winner at 18:27 - just 21 seconds after MTU tied the
game at 18:08 of the third. Assists on Larsonšs goal were provided by Tyler
Arnason and Brandon Sampair. SCSU jumped to a quick 3-0 lead in the first
with goals scored by Joe Motzko, Derek Eastman and Mark Hartigan. MTU
stormed back with two goals in the second period before the Tech squad tied
the game in the third. Meyer was solid down the stretch with 34 saves -
including 19 saves in the third period.

FINAL 1999-2000 RECORD: In 1999-2000, the Huskies continued their tradition
of excellence with a 23-14-3 overall record and a 16-9-3 third place record
in the always rugged WCHA. The Huskies advanced to the Final Five of the
WCHA tournament last season, which included a 6-4 third place win over
Minnesota. The icing on the cake was a trip to the 2000 NCAA Division I
East Regional, and a number 12 ranking in the final Division I national
poll. The 23 wins ties a school record for most wins in a season. The
Huskies also had 23 wins during the 1997-98 campaign.

HEAD COACH: SCSU coach Craig Dahl (Pacific Lutheran, 1976) in his 14th
season as head coach for the Huskies. He is the only coach that SCSU has
had since moving to the NCAA Division I level in 1987-88. Dahl has a career
record of 239-236-38 at SCSU and a 20-year career coaching mark of
315-324-40. Dahl won his 300th career game on 2/19/00. In 1997-98, Dahl
was named the WCHA Coach of the Year. He has won more games than any SCSU
hockey coach. In 2000-01, Dahl will be assisted by Doc DelCastillo (SCSU,
1992) in his third season and first year coach Brad Willner (Lake Superior
State, 1995).

ALL-TIME RECORD: The Huskies and Coach Dahl both own a 239-236-38 record
since the program went Division I in 1987-88. This is the first season that
the Huskies have gone above .500 with their overall record since going
Division I...The Ferris State game on Oct. 13th was the 500th Division I
hockey game in the history of the program at SCSU. The game was also Dahlšs
500th as a coach at SCSU.

GWG FACTS: Jon Cullen posted his second game winner of the season during
SCSUšs win over MTU on Dec. 1. Cullen also scored the game winner in SCSUšs
previous game at UMass. Cullen now has four career game winners. He also
has scored a point in the past four consecutive games, which comes after
scoring only one point in the seasonšs first 11 games. Cullen now has 9g
and 16a in his SCSU career.

GREAT BEGINNINGS: The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team got off
to its best start in the history of the program at the Division I level this
year. Through five games, the Huskies charted a 4-0-1 record, stopped by a
3-1 loss to DU on Oct. 28. The previous best five-game start of 4-1 was
charted in 1996-97. The Huskiesš 3-1 start in the WCHA was the best
four-game start in team history and its overall record of 6-1-1 was the
teamšs best ever 8-game start at the Division I level. At 10-3-1, SCSU is
off to its best 14-game start and has won 10 games faster than any season in
team history. SCSUšs previous best record over 14 games was 9-3-2 in
1997-98.

MOVING UP ON THE CHARTS: Tyler Arnason ranks 27th in the all-time scoring
charts at SCSU with 90 career points (37g/51a), while Brandon Sampair is
29th with 88 points (40g/48a)...Sampair now ranks 10th in the Division I
charts at SCSU with 40 goals, while Arnason is 12th with 37 career
goals...Nate DiCasmirro is tied for 23rd with 27 career goals and Mark
Hartigan is making a quick climb with 32 career goals (18th place)...for
assists, Arnason is 16th with 53 assists - only the 15th player in SCSU
history to gain over 50 assists. Sampair now has 48 assists and ranks 17th,
while Keith Anderson is next on the list with 43 assists (21st place).
DiCasmirrošs now has 35 career assists - 30th in the records...of note,
Arnason ranks 12th among SCSUšs Division I players for most career points
with 90. Sampair is ranked 17th among SCSUšs Division I players with 85
points. Jeff Saterdalen is the Huskiesš all-time scoring leader with 179
career points (78g/101a) from 1988-92...Arnason is 10 points away from
SCSUšs 100-point club and would be the 24th player in team history to reach
that lofty plateau and the first since Dave Paradise, who had 122 points
from 1993-97.

ROAD WARRIORS: SCSU has always been a team that performs well at home, as
it posted a 14-6-1 record at the NHC in 1999-00. All-time, SCSU is
124-69-20 in the NHC (.629). On the road, SCSU has been tough with a 7-1
record - compared to a 3-2-1 record at home this season. Last year, SCSU
was 8-6-2 on the road.
