DENVER, COLO. -- The eighth-ranked Providence College Friars and the
University of Denver Pioneers skated to a 3-3 tie, in college hockey action,
on Saturday, November 25 at Magness Arena in Denver, Colo.
The Friars took a 1-0 lead at 8:36 of the first period, when Mike Robinson
beat Pioneer netminder Wade Dublielewicz with a slap shot from the right
face-off circle.. Cody Loughlean assisted on Robinson's first collegiate
goal. Less than 30 seconds later, the Pioneers tied the game, 1-1. Denver
defenseman Bryan Vines took a shot from the blue line that deflected off a
Providence defender, past PC netminder Boyd Ballard, for the Pioneer's first
goal. At the 15:05 mark, Denver took a 2-1 lead on a Bjorn Engstrom goal.
Denver's Judd Stauss made perfect pass to Engstrom at the blue line, who
then broke in one-on-one with Ballard and beat him with a low wrist shot,
giving the Pioneers a 2-1 lead.
Providence tied the game at the 16:40 mark of the second on a Matt Libby
power-play goal. Libby fired a shot from the point that was blocked by a
Denver defenseman. Libby gathered the puck and fired a second shot that
slipped past Dublielewicz, Adam Lee and Marc Suderman assisted on the play.
Stephen Wood gave the Friars a 3-2 lead at 12:58 of the third. Robinson
won a face-off in the Friars' zone, Wood collected the puck, wrapped-around
the net and stuffed the puck past Dublielewicz, for his first collegiate
goal. Less than two-minutes later, Denver tied the game, 3-3. Greg Barber
one-timed a Greg Keith feed and beat Ballard high on the glove-side.
Garber's goal proved to be the game-tying goal as neither team was able to
produce much offense in the extra period.
