St. Cloud State Men's Hockey Release for 10/16/00

UPCOMING GAMES: The St. Cloud State menšs hockey team (1-0-1) will travel
to Bemidji State University on Oct. 20, for a 7:05 p.m. game in the John S.
Glas Fieldhouse (200x85). The two teams will return to St. Cloud on Oct.
21, for a 7:05 p.m. game in the National Hockey Center (5,763 cap./200x100).

THE RESULTS:It was a day for the youth, as SCSU opened its 2000-01 campaign
with a 3-1 win over visiting Ferris State University (0-1-1). The Bulldogs
jumped to an early lead on a power play goal by Kevin Swider at 2:56 of the
first before frosh Andy Lundbohm charted the team's first goal of the season
with an assist from Duvie Westcott at 6:06 of the first. Rookie Brian
Schuster posted the next tally at 9:21 with another feed from Westcott. The
game's scoring ended at the 16:00 mark of the first when freshman Jeff
Finger scored on a power play goal with an assist from Lee Brooks. SCSU
goalie Scott Meyer charted 28 saves in the contest...in the second game of
the series on Oct. 14, the Huskies and Ferris skated to a 3-3 tie. FSU
jumped to a quick 1-0 lead on a goal by Rob Collins before Brandon Sampair
scored at 7:14 of the first with assists from Tyler Arnason and Brian
Gaffaney. Kevin Swider posted his second goal of the series and Collins
scored his second goal of the night to help FSU take a 3-1 lead into the
third period. SCSU fought back with a goal by Finger at 4:04 of the third.
Sampair tied the game with a power play goal at 15:12 of the third with
assists from Arnason and Keith Anderson. Meyer tallied 27 saves in the
game...of note SCSU is now an even 2-2-2 in games played against FSU.

FINAL 2000-01 RECORD: In 1999-2000, the Huskies continued their tradition of
excellence with a 23-14-3 overall record and a 16-9-3 third place record in
the always rugged WCHA. The Huskies advanced to the Final Five of the WCHA
tournament last season, which included a 6-4 third place win over Minnesota.
The icing on the cake was a trip to the 2000 NCAA Division I East Regional,
and a number 12 ranking in the final Division I national poll. The 23 wins
ties a school record for most wins in a season. The Huskies also had 23
wins during the 1997-98 campaign.

HEAD COACH: SCSU coach Craig Dahl (Pacific Lutheran, 1976) i
his 14th season as head coach for the Huskies. He is the only coach
that SCSU has had since moving to the NCAA Division I level in 1987-
    88. Dahl has a career record of 230-233-38 at SCSU and a 19-year
career coaching mark of 306-321-40. Dahl won his 300th career game
on 2/19/00. In 1997-98, Dahl was named the WCHA Coach of the Year. He
has won more games than any SCSU hockey coach. In 2000-01, Dahl will be
assisted by Doc DelCastillo (SCSU, 1992) in his third season and first year
coach Brad Willner (Lake Superior State, 1995).

500th GAME AT SCSU: The Ferris State game on Oct. 13th was the 500th
Division I hockey game in the history of the program at SCSU. The game was
also Dahlšs 500th as a coach at SCSU. SCSU and Dahl both own a record of
230-233-38 during the past 14 seasons.

ROOKIES SHINE: The offensive output for the Huskies was centered around the
rookies. Newcomers Andy Lundbohm, Brian Schuster and Jeff Finger all
tallied goals for the Huskies against FSU on Oct. 13. The goals were all
collegiate firsts for the new players. Of note, SCSUšs first two goals were
tallied on the second and third shots on goal of the game for SCSU. Finger
moved his goal tally this season to two with a score against FSU on Oct. 14.

NICE COMEBACK: The Huskies tallied 18 shots on goal in the third period
against Ferris State on Oct 14. The results were two goals by the Huskies
in the final 16 minutes of play. The last time the Huskies rebounded from a
two-goal deficit, SCSU gained a 5-4 win over Alaska-Anchorage on Jan. 21,
2000 in St. Cloud.

ASSIST DATA: Junior defender Duvie Westcott notched his 19th and 20th
assists of his career last night against FSU on Oct. 13. With 21 career
points, Westcott now ranks 155th in the career scoring ranks at SCSU...Lee
Brooks posted his 12th assist of his career last night. He now has 24
career points, which places him 140th in the school charts. Tyler Arnason
also had two assists on Oct. 14, which places him 19th among Husky career
point leaders at 82 (33g, 49a)...Brian Gaffaney now has 12 career assists
and 16 career points (177th on the SCSU scoring charts)...Keith Andersonšs
assist on Oct. 14 pushes him to 25 in his career and 49 career points (82nd
in SCSU history)...Jeff Saterdalen leads the Husky scoring pack with 179
points (78-101) from 1988-92.

GOAL DATA: As mentioned above, SCSU saw its freshmen post four of its six
goals this weekend against Ferris State...Brandon Sampair charted the other
two goals. Sampair now has 39 goals and 81 career points. He ranks 40th on
the SCSU all-time scorers list and is 11th on the goal scoring list. He
moves past George Awada, who scored 38 goals from 1995-99. Sampair is one
goal behind Tony Gruba, who had 40 from 1990-94.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME: The Huskies were 14-6-1 at home in 1999-00. SCSU has
posted a 122-68-20 all-time record at the National Hockey Center. St. Cloud
State was 8-6-2 on the road and 1-2-0 in neutral site games last winter...so
far in 2000-01, the Huskies are 1-0-1 at the National Hockey Center. In the

.629.
