WCHA first round matchups
Wisconsin has clinched the league title and will host michigan tech
in the first round
North Dakota has clinched second place and will host either denver
or minnesota duluth
if St Cloud wins,
they finish third.
if St Cloud ties,
they finish third if MSU does not win
they finish 4th if MSU wins
if St Cloud loses,
if MSU also loses they finish 3rd
if MSU wins or ties and CC does not win, they finish 4th
if MSU wins or ties and CC wins they finish 5th
if MSU wins
they finish third if st cloud does not win
they finish 4th if st. cloud wins
if MSU ties
they finish third if st cloud loses
else they finish 4th
if MSU loses
if cc wins and st cloud loses, they finish 5th
else they finish 4th
if CC wins
if both st cloud and MSU lose, they finish 4th based on goal
differential in a 3 way tie.
if st cloud loses and MSU does not, they finish 4th
else they finish 5th
Minnesota will finish 6th and will travel for the first round
Anchorage will finish 7th and will travel for the first round.
if duluth wins, they finish 8th
if duluth ties or loses
if denver does not win they finish 8th
if denver wins they finish 9th
based on the remaining schedule
st cloud hosts minnesota
mankato is at duluth
minnesota is at st cloud
cc is at wisconsin
the wcha tie-breakers are (from http://www.wcha.com/wcha-body.html)
a) head to head
b) wcha wins
c) head to head fewest goals against (if 4 game series)
d) wcha goals for minus goals against
st cloud
wins tiebreaker with MSU mankato (2-0)
loses to CC
msu mankato
loses tiebreaker to St. Cloud
wins tiebreaker with cc (3-1)
cc
wins over st cloud
loses (1-3) to mankato
if all 3 teams are tied at the end of the season, the tiebreaker is
not clear. Nobody wins the three way head to head tie breaker. All 3
will have the same number of wins and it comes down to goals for minus
goals against. St cloud has +35, cc has +17 and mankato has +10
So, st. cloud would win the 3 way tiebreaker. I believe that CC comes
in second on the goal differential tiebreaker. and thus would win the
three way tiebreaker against mankato, but lose the 2 way tiebreaker
team to today can get placing
play points points
Wisconsin 1 44 46 1
