All seriousness aside, I believe the Western Michigan squad has started serving
its staggered one-game suspensions in the wake of the team party, arrests, etc.
from a couple weeks ago. The Broncos would thus have been six players short
for the Notre Dame game. WMU also wasn't very good last year, finishing 9th in
the CCHA by a good margin and losing something like 17 straight at one point.
I don't think they were expected to improve dramatically.
