Colorado College gets their first home sweep of the season as they defeat
Alaska Anchorage 3-2 tonight at the Cadet Ice Arena. Penalties were even
fewer tonight, with only 3 for Anchorage and 2 for CC. The Tigers outshot
the Seawolves 32-25 for the game, and outshot them in the first and third
periods.

The first period started out slow. It wasn't until 12 and a half minutes
in that Brian Swanson put CC on the board, his first goal since the series
at Michigan Tech Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. The Tigers got a charging penalty
that some people thought was questionable, but they were able to kill it
off.

In the second period, the Seawolves got 2 penalties for interference, but
CC was unable to score on either power play opportunity. The same did not
hold true, however, in the opposite direction when Scott Swanson was
called for tripping and Anchorage went on the power play. 36 seconds into
it Chris Sikich got his first goal of the season and tied things up with 9
minutes to go in the period. The Seawolves seemed to liven up after that
and took more shots, but none got in to give them the lead.

In the third period, we were hoping it wouldn't go to overtime at 1-1, and
Toby Petersen seemed to agree, as he regained CC's one goal lead 6 minutes
in. Anchorage didn't give up though, and Sikich struck again 7 and a half
minutes later to once again tie up the game at 2 apiece. Our SID had
predicted a 2-2 tie, and we waited anxiously to see if that would be the
case. Fortunately for the Tigers, Jason Gudmundson put in his 7th of the
season with 4 minutes left, and CC had the 3-2 lead. The Seawolves called
a timeout with 1:41 remaining, and pulled Doug Teskey 38 seconds later for
the extra attacker to try and tie it up. Colin Zulianello made some good
saves and kept the puck out of the net. 50 seconds later, however,
Anchorage took a roughing penalty, so Teskey was back in for the last 13
seconds, and CC skated to a win.

Colin Zulianello has been looking good these past few weeks in goal when
he's had to play. Jason Cugnet, who probably won't be back until the
Denver Cup tournament after Christmas, will definitely have some
ocmpetition for the starting spot if Zulianello keeps up the playing.

Next weekend the Tigers face rival DU in a home-and-home series Sunday
afternoon and Monday night. Sunday's game at Cadet Ice Arena will be their
last played there as the home team, as the next scheduled home series is
hosting Wisconsin at the new World Arena Jan. 23-24. Just got my season
ticket info in the mail, and they are letting people choose their seats
Dec. 13-19 at assigned times. No tours yet, though, and according to the
info, people will still have to wear hard hats when going in to pick
seats.
