Maybe we're a little too crazy about national polls. I know Western
Michigan deserves to be ranked (higher), but in reality, if they keep up
their current win percentage they will be rewarded come playoff time.
Every week I get four or five (sometimes six) different college hockey
polls. Some have as many as 15 teams listed. There are only 40 (or so)
Division I programs and of those 40, only 30 have a mathematical chance
to make the top 15 -- which is 50% of your teams. Besides, the only
poll that relly matters is the NCAA selection committee poll, which we
never see.
