I'm not so sure that the NHL is the next logical step for Walsh. From a job
satisfaction standpoint, the college game is much different from the pro
game. For a coach like Walsh, who I'm sure is one of the higher paid college
coaches, there is also a LOT more job security at the college level. While
he may make a very successful NHL coach, and there may be NHL teams that are
interested in him, I'm not so sure he would have any incentive to make that
move.

At the risk of having Mike accuse me of borrowing his own arguments <g>, the
job security issue may be just the reason Walsh interviewed at OSU. As a
professional (in any job), it's always nice to know how marketable you are at
any given time. He may have been using OSU to get a pulse on the market and
his own job security. I know I occasionally go on interviews simply to learn
what is available, what people are expecting and to keep my interviewing
skills sharp. Not necessarily because I'm interested in another job. I
suspect Walsh was doing much the same.

I really don't see the pros in his future. I see him more as a Ceglarski or
a Parker -- very successful at the college level with a solid income and a
ton of job security. In my mind, there would be no advantage for him to take
a pro position.
