On Friday night, Meehan Auditorium was graced with the presence of the
Canadian National Team in an exibition matchup with the Bears. Canada jumped
out to two goal lead with two in the first against Mike Parsons. In the 2nd,
Ryan Mulhearn was able to lean against a Canadian defender while skating
toward the goal mouth and slide the puck between the pads of the Canadian
goalie Verner. Freshman Jeff Holowaty played this period for the Bears (his
first varsity action all year) and shut them out. With Brian Audette between
the pipes in the 3rd, Brown tied the game on a 5 on 3 power play when Mulhearn
got a rebound an slapped it by the Canadian goaltender. Our hopes for a tie
where vanquished at about the 10:00 mark when Canada scored on a poor angle
shot from the goalie's left. Glenn Anderson then made his presence known by
taking the puck at mid-ice, skating across the blue line, around the defender
and stuffing the puck past Audette to seal the game.
A couple notes off the top of my head:
Luckily, ECAC refs worked the game last night and they sent a stream of players
to the box (primarily Team Canada), which aided the Bears
The Brown power play finally return to a level of respectability after being
embarrassed at Harvard (and RPI).
The Bears are off for finals and return to action on Dec. 28 against Air Force
in the Denver Cup Tournament.
