Congratulations to Chris Marinucci, the 1994 Hobey Baker Award
winner from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and Grand Rapids, MN.
There couldn't have been another player more deserving of the award than
Marinucci. After only scoring 6 goals his freshman and sophomore year,
he exploded to 77 points his junior year, helping the Bulldogs to the
WCHA title. Many critics gave all the credit for his success to
All-American linemate Derek Plante, but this year he lead the WCHA in
scoring with little teammate support. His 138 points the last two
seasons led the nation. He could singlehandidly dominate a game like
no other player in college hockey. Along with his superb passing and
scoring ability, Marinucci was anincredible force along the boards and
an aggressive forechecker. It was nice to see the voting committee
recognize a player who excels in allaspects of the game, not just
scoring. Hopefully we will see Marinuccinext season with the N.Y.
Islanders.
