Summary:

Union held on for a 3-3 tie of league-leading Harvard Saturday night.
The point, combined with the results of games involving teams directly
below Union in the standings, assures Union of no worse than an 8th
place finish, good enough for home ice in the preliminary round on
March 8.

Union jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on Jon Sicinski's goal at 1:59,
but Harvard tied it up under a minute later. Sicinski gave Union
another short-lived lead midway though the period. Union took a 3-2
lead when Troy Stevens and Chris Ford came in on a 2-on-1. Stevens
almost always looks for the pass but this time he took the shot for
his 6th goal of the season. Harvard tied the game a few minutes
later.

The teams played though a scoreless third in which Harvard and Union
had just 5 and 4 shots, respectively. Union had 2 of the 3 OT shots.
Their 2 shots came early in the overtime, and it looked like they
might pull out the win. Harvard controlled the second half of
overtime, but the Dutchmen came away with the tie.

Luigi Villa made 27 saves for Union. The Dutchmen continue to get
excellent games from both goaltenders. Union was also able to kill
off all three of Harvard's power plays. The Crimson came in with a
35% power play success rate.

Union is now 8-9-3 in the ECAC, tied with Cornell for 7th place, and
are just 3 points behind Vermont and Colgate who share 5th. The
Dutchmen are 12-9-4 overall, and are on a 7-game unbeaten streak
(5-0-2). A one or two point weekend against Brown or Harvard would
have been considered a great success, but Union came away with 3
points. They finish against Colgate and Cornell at home next weekend.
